The Park at Park MGM in Pictures

On a 109 degree afternoon in Las Vegas, I explored MGM's new district The Park. Although primarily a retail conduit to the arena, it is filled with sculpture and abstract expressions of shape and form that draw the visitor in.

A walkway designed to lead, comfort, and cool the visitor, full of natural textures and colors, and life-giving water.

Trees defy the desert heat, and soaring metal installations provide shade in a harsh riff of nature - but can nature survive this man-made desert, or will man-made steel trees prevail?

There are a million ways to view the million shapes encapsulated in these giants.

A giant mesh goddess holds court over visitors, welcoming, embracing, protecting them.

Her shadow beckons atop natural stone and rock, shaped to please visitors to The Park.

She's playful, elegant, but hard, as one must be to survive the elements here.

In the end, the homeless know what is needed to make it in this harsh environment - shade.
